Ceci Bastida – Controlar (produced by XXXChange)
Let’s continue with the Mexican theme shall we! Here we have Ceci Bastida, former front singer of Mexican ska/punk band Tijuana, No!, teaming up with one of my personal favourites XXXChange. He knows how to tie everything together in a song and make it coherent in a very pleasing way. Controlar has an overall dark new wave sound-cloud hovering above it, which forced me to put this one on infinite repeat today.
You can really recognize Bastida’s punk roots in her vocals, the raspy quality of it combined with XXXChange’s poppish-sound makes it pure gold. You should listen to this, if only for the brilliant build up in the intro!
