Monarchy

Monarchy, the British duo with magical power. Now, I don’t exactly remember where I first discovered Monarchy, could’ve easily been the Diamond Cut remix on Discodust. Anyway, the calm dreamish sounds and the romantic pop-hooks mixed with the best vocals I’ve heard since Prince just makes a lovely combination which could even make the pope imagine what it would be like to have sex.

The good thing is for us who still buy records, they’ve released this baby on vinyl called Gold In The Fire/Black the Colour Of My Heart, which you can get through Pure Groove. Just like the golden days.. In the fire.

I’ve thought about the lyrics and the name of the song. They sing “Gold in the fire”, and I figured that has to be a allegory for something you can’t get, you can’t get to that freakin’ gold how much you’d try ’cause you’ll burn your hand and then, fuck, you walk around with a misshaped  hand just because you were to greedy to go for the gold. Lay off the gold man.

Okey enough bullshit, I’m sharing some remixes here of this song in question by We Have Band. And the thing is, this minimal/drums-only version of they made works surprisingly well. The vox of Monarchy just fills that bastard up. the Hidden Cat one sounds almost a bit deep-houseish with that big late-night “slightly drunk-dancing” club feel. The Flak Attack one starts of almost as a minimal techno track but puts out the bigger defining synths later on.

And a remix of blog-love “soon to be on heavy-rotation on MTV” Ellie Goulding by the men themselves Monarchy, which is calm and slow-paced but has a lot of personality, much like a chihuahua.

Alan Wilkis + Yeasayer

I don’t hesitate when it’s a Alan Wilkis remix, it’s always good. Here we got a remix of his by the impeccable Yeasayer’s Ambling Alp. It’s upbeat and action-packed.

Stay Ali

Now, I’ve been a fan of Stay Ali for some time now. I’ve had their Emotional Day song on my dj-playlist the two latest gigs, it’s pure brilliance.

These three Swedish kids (can I call them kids?, ’cause I’m old as shit) use the best flavours of electro to stir up a stew which makes my senses tingle, and with that said, they are somewhat experimental in their sound. They play with partyish electro-dance, breakbeats, pop, electro-indie.. Well, I could go here and list more genres and imaginative ones forever and yet wouldn’t be close to explaining the sound they create.

They need to be heard to be truly appreciated, ’cause they’re fresh, playful and fucking amazing. So here’s their new track 97 (I hope they weren’t born then?) which is a bit more low-key than Emotional Day but is awesome yet the same. Godamn wonderkids..

Midnight Club

Another music-goodie bag. Midnight Club is a new and fresh act from France, much like in the neo-wave of nostalgic 80’s pop this too drives it’s forces through those elements.

They consist of 3 friends which have the passion for the same style of musical approach, their ages have not been verified but rumor has it that these guys have been in the game a long time, so they definately know what they’re fiddling on in the studio. The sound is dreamy, 80’s synth-pop and obscure 80’s horror flicks, the basic combination for what I like to call “Love”. Speaking of movies, don’t watch Doghouse, it’s shit.

Worship swooshed in and remixed The Machine, which might be his best remix to date.  I love it when great producers get even better.

And this is (almost naturally) a release from French pioneer label On The Fruit Records.

LBCK

Hey, I think I’ll do a bigger post again. I’ll go through my mail and add songs as I write this, totally interactive! And one other thing, I think we’ll have more interviews in the future ’cause I’m shit at doing them and don’t have the time really. So I asked our old writer Tina to do a interview for Memoryhouse which will be up shortly, and if she’s willing enough there might be  a lot more of them.

So, here in our midst we have  a Californian duo LBCK, short for Long Beach City Kids which use their disco-house skills on the track Start . It’s fast and unpredicatble, and use the coolest samples I’ve heard to date. The funny thing is that Alex Noblé and Michael Lucás turn the boat around and completely changes the genre on their track gIALLO, which is a noisy and cut-up banger. The machines of this beat will tear shit apart.

We had the Dada Life remix of French Jeans by Finnish MVSEVM a while back, and now they decided to drop the original aswell. These wolves of the Finnish dj-scene makes your feet tap and your heartrate boil. You can can get this release at beatport through Discobelle. More Finnish music like this please, ’cause I am Finnish godamn it.

Austrian A.G. Trio have been featured on this blog some time ago, years maybe? And Dancen EP is their latest release which were caught in a whirlwind of creativity of German duo Ultrnx. It’s hard and pumping like a engine. And if not for the reason of discovering new music, go visit A.G. trio’s myspace for hilarious “non-electro” school-photo-like posing for promo photos.

Grum, a personal favourite of mine, have remixed the LA rockers Jump Jump Dance Dance’s Show Me the Night, which have a all the key elements that makes my interest grow. The nostalgic filler synths, the swaying melodies and the neon-night feel. Nice work, and a thank you to Discodust for bringing this to my attention.

Lo-Fi-Fnk

I’ve been waiting a long time for the follow up to their album Boy Life, I played that sucker all day and everywhere when it came out. Even managed to catch them live here in Helsinki.

As I expected something a bit more “dance” and “electro-poppy”, this is not bad. And I’m afraid it might grow on me.

So here’s the new track from Swedens Lo-Fi-Fnk called Marchin’ In sounding more like Tough Alliance than the old Lo-Fi-Fnk, but I’m not hatin’.

Monsieur Adi + JAVI

I could go on and on here about how I believe Monsieur Adi is the new wonderchild in the world of music, but I’m not. This time.

We have here a remix by the man himself by a New York based artist called JAVI, his music is more of the soulful neo-pop. Monsieur Adi worked his Italian hands on this one and created a stringed funky electro-pop hit of this one. The elements which Adi uses works perfectly with the soul pop of JAVI. Intertwined like two lovers. Perfect.

Database

It’s been a long time since I heard anything from Brazilian DJ/producer team Database, Lucio Morais & Yuri Chix have had their hands full on DJ:ing every day of the week, which might have put a ‘lil halt on the own production.

But now they’re back with a remix of Neon Indian’s Deadbeat Summer, which takes the chill-wave and turns it up with a bit of lasers, noisy circuit breaks and a fast-paced pumping beat, which works well with the more non-chalant vox of Neon Indian. I would’ve wanted the synth to be a bit thicker in this one, to fill up that spine that runs through the song, to emphazise on the “carry” of the synth-pop. But I like it none the less. It’s a bit more chill.

Fan it. Follow it.

Polygon Palace

My heart warms when I get something this good in my inbox. The Melbourne-based duo Polygon Palace makes this warm and fussy pop-electro with a touch of that party mentality which we’ve come to love.

The duo have just released their debut single called Tokyo Getaway which features remix by Cassian and Cryptonites, and the Cassian one is not that far from the original but pumps the beat up a ‘lil with handclaps and some funky basslines, he took the better parts and funk’d it up. Which in turn is a good call, ’cause the original is special all on its own.

Their Myspace genre description reads Cubist/Post-pop/Combat disco and I couldn’t explain it better even if I tried to. The swaying bass, the big synths with the “Swedish” sounding pop-vocals just sums up a sexy  combination. Love it.
